Sovereignty Statement: Sovereignty Calls for a Singular Focus on Independence

Sovereignty has noted with respect the recent statement from the Independence for Scotland Party (ISP) announcing their decision to stand independently following their withdrawal from the Alliance to Liberate Scotland (AtLS).

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Colette Walker, Allan Petrie, and all ISP members for their unwavering integrity, grassroots dedication, and vital contributions to building a collaborative platform focused on Scottish independence.

We fully understand the disappointment and challenges that have arisen in recent weeks as the Alliance has evolved. The independence movement has always been strongest when built on trust, mutual respect, and shared commitment to putting Scotland first—values we plan to carry forward.

Sovereignty joined the AtLS because its founding vision aligns so closely with our own: Independence. Nothing Else. Nothing Less. This clear, single-issue focus offers the best opportunity to unite the pro-independence vote, deliver a strong mandate in the 7 May 2026 Holyrood election, and secure Scotland’s full sovereignty free from both Westminster and Brussels.

After in-depth discussion within our National Executive Committee, Sovereignty has resolved to remain an active and constructive part of the Alliance. We will campaign with positivity and determination, upholding the principles of openness, fairness, and inclusivity that brought us together. Sovereignty will continue to demonstrate the member-led, disciplined approach our supporters value, while supporting every effort to strengthen unity and confidence across the wider movement.

We recognise that different paths may sometimes be necessary to advance the cause, and we respect the choices made by our friends in the ISP and others. What unites us all far outweighs any differences: a shared determination to see Scotland free, prosperous, and self-governing.

Brian Nugent, Leader of Sovereignty, said: “As someone who has watched this movement grow from the grassroots up, I believe Scotland’s independence will only be won through principled unity, not expediency. We stay engaged to protect and build on the vision we all shared at the start—ensuring that Scotland’s people, not any single approach or personality, come first.”

To Colette Walker, Allan Petrie, the ISP team, AtLS colleagues, and every independence supporter across all banners: thank you for your tireless work. This cause is greater than any party or moment of difficulty. Scotland needs us to keep our eyes on the prize—a sovereign nation.

The time to come together is now. Stand with Sovereignty: lend your vote, your voice, and your energy to candidates committed to putting Scotland first. Let us show through our actions that unity in purpose can overcome any challenge and deliver the independence we all seek.
