At a recent Sovereignty Congress, a motion declaring the members’ support for a Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) was debated and agreed by the membership. This is conditional on a majority of the Scottish electorate voting for parties that support withdrawing from the UK.
It was further decided that a letter should be sent to the Electoral Commission to make them aware that the Constitution of both the Scottish National Party and the Alba Party erroneously claim that they support the restoration of “Scottish National Sovereignty”. Since the advocacy of “Independence in Europe”, in the case of the SNP, and membership of EFTA, in the case of Alba, both involve surrender of sovereignty their claims are in contradiction to their aims, and even with a mandate would fail to deliver freedom or meaningful independence.
It is not in the gift of any political party to decide what the Scottish people want to be members of or seek to join. They, and they alone, would decide by referenda in a post-independence situation what powers, if any, should be devolved to foreign or international institutions.
Party Leader, David McHutchon said, “It is time, past time, that the Scottish people ceased to be hoodwinked by the insincerity of the two supposedly nationalist parties, by offering manifestos that fall short. Presumably, both no longer cling to the sacred promise of letting the people decide. To assuage the natural fear of change, they have “thrown the baby out with the bathwater.”
The difference between the Scottish and the English view of ‘sovereignty’ is not widely understood. In England, “The Crown in Parliament” is the sovereign body. In Scotland, as enshrined in the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath and never amended in any subsequent law, charter, or document, it is specified that the Scottish people are Sovereign, not the King nor Parliament, and any proper Government of Scotland would rule with such a mandate from the people.
In the upcoming 2026 election, Sovereignty will campaign to leave Westminster and the undemocratic, increasingly militarised EU. We also campaign not to be intimidated by any Section 30 or restrictions placed upon our people that deny our right to progress the status of our nation and have been meekly accepted in the past.
This is our birthright.
