At Sovereignty, we would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Iain Lawson, an indomitable campaigner for independence, whose wisdom and energy we will miss greatly.
He was known personally to several members of the Sovereignty National Executive Committee, having been on the Gartcosh March with Brian Nugent, our Nominating Officer, and having served with Sovereignty NEC Member, Andrew MacDonald on the SNP’s National Organizing Committee.
He followed a path less travelled from being a Tory parliamentary by-election candidate to serving in the SNP and the Yes Movement, before founding the highly-influential Yours for Scotland website. This indispensable blog and newsletter, which was read by many, was marked by its intellectual heft and strategic nous, and was a source of inspiration for many grassroots activists.
It is much to be regretted that Iain did not live long enough to see the work commenced by Liberation reach its ultimate fruition, but we have confidence that his legacy will endure and shall seek to play our part in sustaining it.
