Following the decision by Fergus Ewing MSP to stand as an independent nationalist candidate in Inverness and Nairn, Andrew MacDonald of Sovereignty has withdrawn his candidacy for the constituency seat. He will however still stand as a candidate on the regional list, and urges supporters of a sovereign, independent Scotland to support his campaign.
“It is no great hardship for me to demit my candidacy for Inverness and Nairn in favour of Fergus Ewing,” Andrew MacDonald explained.
“It is in fact an honour to do so and assist his chances of election in any way. I served on the SNP with his mother and the Ewing dynasty had brought nothing but honour to the SNP. Their treatment of Fergus has been shameful. To reject Alliances which ultimately proved to be problematic to say the least showed foresight and principle. May I say though that membership of Foreign Unions that sacrifice our inalienable right to Sovereignty in whatever measure are cowardly and sell our people short.
“Any candidate who stands in 2026 for a party claiming to deliver ‘Independence’ should be required to sign a memorandum of understanding that joining any Union that comprises our right to self determination is not in the gift of anyone other than the Sovereign people of Scotland and that by plebiscite or referendum in a post democratic majority. It is not in the gift of any political party to determine what undermines our ancient traditions.”
Andrew is a native Invernesian, a local businessman, and a former Chairman of the Scottish Sovereignty Movement. Since 2022, he has served as a member of the Sovereignty National Executive Committee, and has been a consistent advocate for the restoration of Scottish national sovereignty, an independent Scotland out of both the UK and EU.
