Sovereignty Manifesto Launch: Unleashing Scotland’s Future

Sovereignty has today launched its Sovereignty Manifesto – a bold blueprint that puts Scotland first and sets out a clear path to independence and prosperity.

From Glasgow, Fife, Inverness, Shetland to the Western Isles, candidates from Sovereignty are united in their belief that Scotland can stand on its own two feet. Here, six voices explain exactly why sovereignty is not just desirable – it is essential.

Scotland held back no longer
“The Manifesto from Sovereignty is about how to unleash Scotland’s Future,” said Brian Nugent, Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate in Shetland.

He continued, “as part of the UK, a failed state, Scotland is held back from unleashing its full potential. Decisions about Scotland should be made by politicians in Scotland, answerable only to voters in Scotland. We could, we should be bold, we have the resources, we should look to the future with confidence!”

The historic right to self-government
“Enshrined in the Declaration of Arbroath 1320 and the Claim of Right of 1689 is the inalienable right of Scots to govern as a Sovereign people, unlike England where the Crown in Parliament is the Sovereign body. Scotland was independent for much longer than we have been suborned,” said Andrew Ross MacDonald, Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate in Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

He continued, “Scotland has been governed by a UK Tory government with only a single MP. The ignominy of that led to the comment that there were more Giant Pandas than Tory MPs in Scotland, an insufferable predicament that should never been accepted.”

Enough is enough – prioritising our own people
“Enough is enough, the people in power need to be worthy of the job title and start working for the good of our own country, prioritising our citizens first to give our children and grandchildren a sustainable prosperous future to look forward to, and one to be proud of,” said Flora Badger, Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate on the Highlands and Islands region.

She continued, “Scotland needs Sovereignty and needs to take a leaf out of Norway’s book. We can stand on our own two feet and with robust common sense economic and social laws, which the Scottish public can trust. Scotland should be a nation where people feel safe and have trust in its leadership, an independent country to be proud of.”

Rebuilding skills, industry and manufacturing
“I am someone who left school to serve my time as a sheet metal welder and fabricator, before spending over 15 years in Scotland’s subsea oil and gas sector and then managing the biogas, renewable energy, plant at Inchdairnie near Kinglassie,” said Laurie Moffat, Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate in Cowdenbeath.

He continued, “I am shocked at the current state of our skills base. Major Fife shipyards are now forced to import hundreds of skilled welders from the Philippines because we have failed to train enough of our own people. We need to make stuff again. Sovereignty will put industry and manufacturing back at the very heart of Scotland’s future.”

Energy realism and a sovereign wealth fund
“Our manifesto rejects decades of deindustrialisation and the Net Zero lunacy that has crippled our ability to power real industry. We will support all forms of energy generation, including both renewables and hydrocarbons, because abundant, reliable and affordable energy is essential if we are to actually make things again,” said Kenny Mackenzie, Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate in Na h-Eileanan an Iar (Western Isles).

He continued, “we will establish a national sovereign wealth fund, seeding it with £10 billion from oil and gas revenues in the first three years, protect and open vital North Sea fields such as Cambo, Jackdaw and Rosebank, and support the revival of refining capacity at Grangemouth.”

Country before party – a message of hope
“I was not the only one who felt immediately hopeful when Sovereignty and our friends from Independents for Independence joined together to form the Alliance to Liberate Scotland, to put country before party,” said Alan McManus, Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate in Cumbernauld & Kilsyth.

He continued, “Our neighbourly, pragmatic, stoic yet lyrical Scottish culture is second to none, intense localism married to international solidarity.”

This is more than a manifesto – it is a declaration that Scotland’s future belongs in Scotland’s hands.
